When dental implants came into use, they were seen as an effective way to restore the full function and appearance of a single lost tooth. As time passed, dental implant technology has continued to evolve to help offer several different restoration options. Now, dental implants can also be used to anchor a dental bridge to replace multiple lost teeth or to secure a set of dentures.

The implant is actually a titanium abutment that can be installed directly into the existing bone structure in your jaw. Titanium is the ideal metal for this application as it is known to be biologically inert and will fuse with the surrounding bone structure in a process known as osseointegration.

Once the dental implant has completely integrated with the surrounding bone tissues, your dentist, Dr. Barry Malkiel, can then start the process of installing the dental bridge or dental crown you need to fully replace the tooth. This will require a second appointment to have the necessary dental work installed. With proper care and cleaning, the implants should replace the full function of your tooth for many years to come.

If you are interested in learning how restorative dentistry can be used to restore your missing teeth, we invite you to call Barry E. Malkiel, DDS at 770-995-9255 to set up a consultation session. We are always happy to help you restore your confident smile!
